Philip Morris, Crespellano

Philip Morris, Crespellano

Between 2015 and 2017, we participated in the construction of ventilation systems at the new Philip Morris manufacturing site in the Crespellano industrial zone through the supply of a significant number of our products.

The result of an investment of more than 1 billion euros, the complex of production buildings represents the largest Italian factory built from scratch in the last 20 years. As the first plant of its kind in the world, Philip Morris Manufacturing & Technology Bologna is the center where production processes are defined for the manufacture of high-tech filters and smokeless tobacco products. It has been recognized as an APEA Ecologically Equipped Production Area and is a “best practice” for conducting and coordinating Safety in Execution.

The project, which began in 2013 and officially opened in 2016, covers a lot of about 311,000 square meters.

In the first phase, more than 80,000 square meters gross area dedicated to logistics, production, quality control and administration was built.

The plant's Entrance Building accommodates all operators in a highly evolved energy envelope (built in Energy Class A) that looks out over the hills of Bologna. Inside are offices, conference center, kitchen with free-flow restaurant, gymnasium and modern locker rooms for all employees. For this building alone, 600 design drawings were prepared, out of the more than 4,000 produced in total.

Specifically, for this project, we produced and delivered:

- More than 350 R41P variable geometry diffusers in diameters Ø500 and Ø630 mm, equipped with corresponding calibration dampers;

- Nearly a thousand DLPB series high-induction linear diffusers;

- Approximately 100 ml of TIN-Z microperforated inductive piping;

- One hundred or so 100 mm pitch aluminum outdoor air intake grilles PAE1A series with adjusting dampers;

- Many other products (control dampers, fire dampers, flow meters, ...).

To support the design for the micro-perforated ducts, fluid dynamic simulations were performed with our CFD software in order to ensure their proper operation with a view to optimal comfort in the room.
